Dzarylgac Survey Project
This book is a publication of the Danish-Dutch-Ukrainian survey project carried out between 2006 and 2008.The project introduced the systematic, intensive survey to the region. It took place at both sides of Lake Darylga -- that is the hinterland of the ancient Greek settlement of Panskoe I in the Tarchankut Peninsula (Western Crimea). The survey aimed at investigating the landscape from prehistory until early modern times. We could conclude that the region was most intensively settled in the Late Classical and Early Hellenistic period. The results were spectacular: a large number of undisturbed Greek and barbarian sites were located, which have completely changed our understanding of ancient settlement patterns in the region.

The book has 14 chapters which are divided into four parts.Part A includes six chapters that deal with theory and methodology.Part B has five chapters and it gets into the process of constructing the survey using both quantitative and qualitative methods.Part C comprises two chapters devoted to assessing the quality or psychometric properties (reliability and validity) of survey responses. Finally, the one chapter in Part D is an attempt to present a synopsis of what was covered in the previous chapters in regard to developing a survey with the TDMM framework for developing survey and conducting survey research. This provides a full process for survey development intended to yield results that can support valid interpretation and use of scores. Including detailed online resources, this book is suitable for graduate students who use or are responsible for interpretation of survey research and survey data as well as survey methodologists and practitioners who use surveys in their field.

Survey
When architects visit a building, and want to record or identify what they see, they take out a bundle of folded sheets in search of a blank piece of paper. These sheets may be ground plans, diagrams, sketches and ordnance maps.In one way or another, all are survey drawings, operating as both documentation and analysis, enabling an architect to examine certain conditions of the built environment, whether geometric, relational, material or technical. This book explores the history of the survey and its multiple forms in order to understand how the methods of recording what already exists can also be used to imagine what might be.Lavishly illustrated, with works from the collection of Drawing Matter and beyond, it addresses the multiple forms of the survey through focused studies - on John Soane (1753-1837), Charles Robert Cockerell (1788-1863), and Detmar Blow (1867-1939); French architects Louis-Hippolyte Lebas (1782-1867), Henri Labrouste (1801-1875), and Eugene Viollet-le-Duc (1814-1879); and Swiss-based Peter Markli (born 1953) - and an extensive section of plates with commentaries by contemporary architects. In doing so, it maintains that while all surveys begin with the site, the outcomes are as idiosyncratic as their authors - and their methods have much to offer as tools in design practice. The book is the first in the Architecture Iconographies series, published in collaboration with Drawing Matter, an organisation based in Wincanton, Somerset, that explores the role of drawing in architectural thought and practice. They consider the image-making of architecture through its typologies and unique approaches to drawing.Exploring their resonance in the history of the profession, as well as their relationship to the architects themselves, the series aims to open up further possibilities for their use in both practice and teaching.

QED at Large : A Survey of Engineering of Formally Verified Software
Development of formal proofs of correctness of programs can increase actual and perceived reliability and facilitate better understanding of program specifications and their underlying assumptions.Tools supporting such development have been available for over 40 years but have only recently seen wide practical use.Projects based on construction of machine-checked formal proofs are now reaching an unprecedented scale, comparable to large software projects, which leads to new challenges in proof development and maintenance.Despite its increasing importance, the field of proof engineering is seldom considered in its own right; related theories, techniques, and tools span many fields and venues. QED at Large covers the timeline and research literature concerning proof development for program verification, including theories, languages, and tools. It emphasizes challenges and breakthroughs at each stage in history and highlights challenges that are currently present due to the increasing scale of proof developments. This monograph is intended for use by researchers and students who are new to the field. It provides the reader with an insightful overview of the work that has led to modern-day techniques for formally verifying software. In times of increasing automation, this underpins many software systems so future trends are also highlighted.
